Workshop on

Research Challenges and Opportunities
in Smart Grids and New Energy Markets

January 28, 2013 - ENEL Research Center, via Andrea Pisano 120, Pisa, Italy

The recent globalization, liberalization, and diversification of the energy market and the penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs) on the grid urge the solution of new technical challenges: for market actors to coordinate the operation of DERs to trade energy on the market, and for system operators to devise efficient and safe market mechanisms. Taking the opportunity of presenting the results of the European research project E-PRICE “Price-based control of electrical power systems”, the goal of the workshop is to share point of views and stimulate discussions with representatives from academia and industry about novel engineering solutions for aggregating DERs in virtual power plants and participating on the day-ahead and real-time electricity markets.
